DALHOUSIE

Dalhousie is one of the gorgeous hill station that is located on the western border of the Dhaula Dhar Range of the great Himalayas. British Viceroy Lord Dalhousie was founded it in 1854. It was one of the great and most delightful summer retreat for the British troops and bureaucrats.

Dalhousie is one of the most famous hill station of Himanchal Pradesh and it’s located 563 kms from Delhi. Beside its breath taking landscapes the other soure of attraction are the ancient temples, an untouched beauty of Chamba & Pangi valley with the awesome valley of milk, honey and streams.The main highlights includes lush green forests of pine, cedar and deodar mostly attracts nature-lovers, along with the usual throng of tourists who seeking shelter from the sweltering heat of the plains.

At heights ranging from near about 1,525 metres (5,000ft) and 2,738 metres (7,800 ft) Dalhousie's natural beauty, fresh and cool breeze, warm and lovely sunshine with a quiet surrounding add, enchantment to its open and colourful valleys, with the level walks and treks amidst these dense forests. On a lovely and clear day, once can see the three important rivers - Chenab, Beas and Ravi, that meandering down the rose grey vista of the valley hills while the snow covered ranges of Dhaula Dhar rise to awe-inspiring height of 5,490 metres that’s near about (18-20,000 ft) to 6,405 metres (21,000 ft). Over 120 years old, basially it owes its name to Lord jemes Romsey, who was Marquis of Dalhousie were born in 1812 and succeeded to the earldom at the small age of 26 in 1838. He came to the attention of Sir Robert Peel who was appointed the Scottish peer Vice President of the Board to Trade in 1843. His proposal to bring out the railways under the national control was shelved. However, Sir John Russell was greatly impressed with they young nobleman, and when the Liberals came to power, offered the young Tory the great post of Governor General of India at the early age of 35 in 1848, to succeed veteran Lord Hardinge. His firstmost task was to ensure peace in Punjab.
It set on five hills - Kathlog, Bakrota, Tehra, Potreyn and Balun and facing the Pir Panjal range, one can view the rivers Ravi, Beas and Chenab from certain vantage points. Fold after fold of mountains, snow-capped area can be viewed from the jagged Pangi Valley, which is a totally a trekker's paradise.
